Welcome November! Our preschool students have made so much progress so far this school year. We can’t believe it’s only been two months! With Thanksgiving and the holiday season approaching, we have so much to be thankful for and will be celebrating those things all month!
For the month of November, our Tools of the Mind theme is HOSPITAL. We will transform our centers into different areas of a hospital. We will also practice role playing doctors/nurses and patients.
In the month of November, we will read many books about being kind and thankful friends. We will also try some new shapes in graphics practice – sticks floating on water, bowls, and lollipops. We have also begun to practice holding a writing utensil with a tri-finger grip and starting all of our shapes “at the top.” We love beginning to write some of our own letters!
This month we will begin learning about the concept of patterning. After spending the last month working on how to sort, we can now identify distinguishing features between objects and notice how they are alike and different. This will be greatly useful as we begin patterning and beyond that as the year continues. We will still be using our special collections for patterning, and each student seems to have their favorite collection to work with by now. We will begin the month using pattern mats to match up colors and shapes in AB patterns, and then we’ll work on continuing the patterns on our own. We will also explore more difficult patterns for those students that master the AB patterns.
Science and Social Studies
This month we will be learning all about our community. We will focus on community helpers, what their jobs are, and why their jobs are important. We will review fire safety, talk about how doctors keep us healthy, and even design a building like an architect. This month we will also talk about what it means to be thankful and discuss all of the things and people in our lives that we are thankful for!
All students will take part in weekly specials that include acting, music, Spanish, Chinese, art, and karate.
