We are so excited to start our new year with lots of learning and fun!
Language Arts- This month, we are looking forward to celebrating Winter. We will read a variety of winter themed books like Over and Under, Snow Friends, and There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow. We will also be reading/learning about Martin Luther King. Our comprehension skills will continue to grow as we enjoy new favorites during our story labs. We will practice sequencing the events of a story through the use of one of our story labs, story grammar.
In Writing, our play plans are becoming more elaborate each day. We have been working hard to create a picture that matches our message, to write the correct amount of lines for our message, and to isolate and identify the initial sound of each word. This month we will work on using the Tools of the Mind sound map to help us identify the initial and ending sound for each word in our message! We will continue to work on our letter formations through graphics practice.
Math- We have become quite the patterning experts. This month, we will continue to work on creating and extending patterns. We will use hands-on manipulatives like geoboards, pom-poms, unifix cubes, links, pattern blocks, frog/dinosaur counters, and even sand to explore patterns. We will also look for patterns in our environment!
Science/Social Studies- We are so excited to start our Around the Town unit this month. We will learn all about different community helpers and common businesses that we can find in our own community. We are so excited to transform our classroom into our very own town with a dentist office, a police station, a post office, a grocery store, a fire station, and a library!
